Green Gears continues work on a new Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid Course to be offered at the San Francisco City College Automotive Program. The First pilot two day course was held at Pat’s Garage and taught be Mr. Jack Rosebro of Perfect Sky .

Practical experience on actual vehicle components is key to learning proper hybrid maintenance techniques.

Green Gears signs contract with San Francisco City College Automotive Program

Green Gears will provide information and training to City College of San Francisco for a Hybrid and Plug in Hybrid vehicle repair course to be offered in 2011.

Contract was signed on 4/27/10. Work will begin imediately. This project was funded by the Federal Economic Stimulus Bill through the Department of Energy and will provide training for individuals seeking employment in the Green Tech industry. The proposal to educate technicians on advanced electric vehicle technology drafted by San Francisco City College, De Anza Community College and Green Gears was the only education proposal to receive funding from the DOE and Economic Stimulus Bill in the state of California.

Hawaiian Utility PHEV project

Pat Cadam and Nick Rothman of Green Gears traveled to Hawaii to convert Toyota Prius vehicles to Plug-in Electric Hybrids.

Nick Rothman and Seth Bridges Head Engineer from V2Green work together to install a data logger and charge management system. We can monitor the vehicles in real time using a cellular communications link. This system allows utilities to control load on the electric grid by adjusting charge rate on PHEV vehicles. Eventually we will send power back into the grid from the vehicle battery system in order to minimize excessive loads on the power grid. See www.v2green.com for more details.

John Peters of Pat’s Garage and Green Gears is in the process of installing one of San Francisco City and County’s PHEV systems.

PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) technology adds to the efficiency of regular hybrid-electric vehicles and minimizes your carbon footprint. Lithium-ion batteries in the rear of the vehicle store electricity that feeds an electric motor. When the batteries are depleted, the factory hybrid system simply kicks into operation. On shorter trips, a vehicle may never employ its combustion engine at all.

Pat Cadam and Nick Rothman installed a PHEV system in front of an eager crowd at Hybrid Fest 07’ in Madison Wisconsin. This vehicle is Part of the Wisconsin Public Power Inc. (WPPI) vehicle fleet. We really enjoyed the enthusiasm of the hybrid owners at the show it was an exciting event.
